So, you want to be an actor.........
It takes 3 things to do well and acheive success
in the entertainment industry.
Ambition:
You need to want to act enough to accept the rejection that comes with this industry and keep trying! You don't have to be tall, or beautiful, or young, or smart. Just don't give up. You have not failed until you quit trying!
Knowledge:
Competition is tough!! Hundreds of people want to be actors. You have to be better than the competition to do well. So, learn how to act. Find an acting coach, study the art form, learn the craft. Keep learning. The job of acting is never the same day twice. Each role has new challenges.
You must keep learning to meet those challenges. Halle Berry and Dustin Hoffman have acting coaches. You should, too. Choose your coach carefully.
Do they inspire you? Are they experienced as a coach? Can they communicate to you so you understand and grow from their knowledge?
Study and learn all you can. Acting for film and TV is not theater, so learn the right craft from the right people for your specific goals. Then you have to show up!
Marketing:
You can not be remembered without marketing materials. You need a good headshot and resume so agents, casting directors, and producers can contact you.
After long audition days, casting pros need to refresh their memory. They refer to the headshots and resumes of everyone they saw. If yours appears unprofessional, this could create a bad impression.
If you don't have one at all, you can be forgotten, or worse yet...they have no contact information to reach you. Develop your marketing materials, then get them into the hands of those who can help you. A great resume does no good in your desk drawer. Go to auditions. Send resumes and pictures to agents. Get your face out in the entertainment market place. BE THERE!
